Clearing the Mental and Physical Clutter
Let's first make a note that good interior decorating design is not always good Feng Shui. In some cases it can be deadly. Also looking at in the other end, good Feng Shui doesn't always make good design choices. Design helps with the emotional and metal feelings towards the home. Feng Shui adds to the luck of the individual. You pick what is most important. If you're super lucky or talented you can make both work. Clutter doesn't cause bad luck, but it might create imaginary blocks in your psyche. Choosing to be clutter free is a design choice. Within clutter, there may or may not be poison arrows affecting your studies, work or sleep. Thus, the clutter might be bad Feng Shui in that respect. Still, never underestimate the power of your mind and how every small visual thing around you can affect you psychologically for better or worse. The mind has more power over us than we give it credit for. For instance, we don't have control over our feelings when we see a sad picture. Also, when an optical illusion causes our retina to play tricks on us, we have no control to make it stop, or if we do it is temporary. Another example is when we step into a space and then feel a sudden motivation to work or relax. In all these cases, serious effort can change the feelings or sensation eventually, that still is a lot of stress on the mind, however. Our living space represents how our mind currently operates. If it is thrown together haphazardly we can tell that the mind is busy wrestling multiple thoughts with little focus. The clutter creates visual blocks in our physical space thus creating creativity blocks in our mental space. Ever notice how sometimes while we are struggling to write or draw we have an unconscious urge to clean up or dig a hole in the back yard. Our brain is trying to overcome that block, and this is how it expresses it in the physical world. When there is clutter, the block is not only felt by the occupant, but also by new people coming into that space. Your guests, who walk in, will feel the block as well, and will quickly want to spend time away from that space. Or they may block it out just like you did and feel a bit of unexplained frustration. This too can have an affect on your love and social life. To remove the clutter, look at the items that are in the mess. What is it that you are trying to hide or not wanting to face? Is it a pile of bills? Is it unfinished projects? What ever it is, there's probably a lot of it. The first step is to open those bills and attack them one by one so you can eventually throw them out. Or set them in a nicely piled stack to make it look pleasing to the eye so you would be motivated to open them one by one. From now on pile by pile, match the sizes, then put them in size or color sequence. If you have many figurines, vases or knick nack of the same design, put them on a shelf evenly spaced, so you create a visual pattern. They should form a straight line to draw your attention to the center piece of the room which might be your bed if it's a bedroom or the TV or couch if it's your living room. Next for all the other stuff that has no where to go, consider using shelves with doors. Preferably the same style from smallest to largest or have a center object with equal balanced sides. Remember, the concept square block in square hole to make use of your shelf space. Playing these puzzle game also releases mental blocks, and increase problem solving skills.
Take advantage of chest drawers that can be turned in to seats, and shelves that can doubled up as desks, and countertops. You can also use large free standing shelves and cabinet as wall partitions. Make sure none of the shelves are cutting your back or bed. Absolutely no corners should face your bed ever. Rounded cornered furniture is preferred to prevent poison arrows. Before you know it you'll have more space than you imagined and all of a sudden you creativity will come back to you. Also, find out how you can be Clutter-free Forever! |
